Preparing for your baby's arrival: your indispensable checklist

Determining that you are expecting is a life-changing experience for you and your spouse, but how can you ensure that you are ready for your baby's coming? After the first thrill, you'll notice your mind turning when you think of everything you need to prep - from planning your med exams to registering for birth courses, baby name, and choosing a driver's chair.

The preparation for your baby does not have to be overpowering. What's great about the long pregnancy is that it gives you enough free rein to at least try to get you ready for giving birth in physical, emotional and logistical terms. Compiling a natal chart can be as simple as setting up some points by hand, or you may want to use an already established chart that can be generated using an on-line submission.

However, try to remind yourself that the map is not carved in stones and you can alter your opinion about anything - at any moment - before or during birth. Ensure that your case is packaged for 36 months or more so that you are ready whenever your baby decides to make an entrance.

One good tip is to put two pouches together: one for the contractions and the lessons immediately after the birth of your baby and another for a visit to the Postnatalstation. When you are planing to have your baby in a delivery room, it is a good idea to find the most convenient way to your home and find an alternate itinerary - just in case the roads come to a halt or there are roadblocks.

Figure out where you can leave your parking space and remember that you will be getting out of your vehicle for at least 24hrs. Make sure you know where to get on when you get off work. Labor often demands energy and endurance, so it is important to get your whole physique ready.
