Well, I was poisoning my kid by breast-feeding... but the doctor said I was nuerotic.
Nurses put the scan over the top of my crying baby's skull and asked me, "How long has it been like this? Right from birth," I said to her, asking myself why she scanned his scalp when his trouble seemed to be in his stomach. Slowly she said she was looking for a cyst or tumor in the brains - a possible reason why my little girl screamed in anguish almost 24-7.
It was the first occasion anyone had ever seen beyond my son's immediate troubles to see how they affected the whole one. Only a few a few ours after his delivery Angus had begun to sniff and sneeze. And then the weeping had turned into screams as his little feet beat madly. Besides Agnes, I had a two-year-old boy, Archie.
As Angus took all my perseverance and attentiveness, my mother-in-law had virtually enlisted to take care of him. Then he took turns and held Angus through the darkness. When he was three moths old, Angus had been sleeping the longest for 20 min, and then he started yelling again.
I would have collapsed completely except for the fact that as the mom of a defenceless infant, any self-pity seemed unconscionable and scarcely caring. When Angus was a few weeks old, our on-site clinic had done some testing and found that he had a certain amount of reflux of acid out of his abdomen, but because he was only gentle, they had said "it wasn't a problem".
I' ve been denied requests for more testing. No one seemed to care about our crying little pauper, as if I was just an overanxious, neurological mother, inventing everything. I' ve been said that "some infants just cry a lot", that there was "nothing wrong", that he "would just outgrow her".
Immediately he gave Angus a tranquilizer - softly but clearly explained that this was just as much to my advantage as the baby's as we were both very weary. Angus should be able to help him get about eight long nights of sleeping. After less than an hours he waked up crying.
Then we were informed that Angus had to be taken to the specialized children's clinic in Glasgow, Yorkhill, for monitoring. In fact, Angus shouted the place down - but the nursing staff took turns to let him calm me down. This was followed by x-rays, bloody testing and a number of bodily exams, but still nothing was apparent.
The pediatrician said, however, that he found that Angus was always quieter when he died of starvation before an operation - and it worried him that a child should be eight hour luckier without nourishment than when feeding. While they were watching, Angus snapped and then moved away vehemently crying in agony.
Every mom, to be said that you are effective at toxicizing her kid, is a slap on the wrist. Breastmilk is always said to be better for the infant and can help alleviate issues such as respiratory distress and stomach ache. Over the course of a whole weekend we found out that Angus was having longer and longer spells where he was both alert and quiet.
In the space of a single monthly period, the contrast was remarkable: at about 17 week old, he opened his eye, began to laugh and responded to the surrounding environment for the first one. Then we tried milk products, then soy, then egg - all without success. When at the age of five at last he ceased shouting long enough to look around, we noticed that both our ears were blinking strongly.
It' s been more than two years since Angus was put on a limited nutrition. We have tried to introduce various food products, but he still cannot eat milk products, soy or spices. I' ve had another six-month-old since then. All the milk products were taken from my food - and four and a half day later he was quiet again.
