Boys' Gown - V&A Museum of Childhood Victoria and Albert Museum

Until about 1920 young men in West Europe wore clothing until they were "locked", i.e. they got their first dress with pants or shorts. Understanding one of the most challenging uses in infancy is why little boy got dressed to dress. Wasn' it hard for her to dress in clothing that made her look like a girl?

Before about 1550, both men and woman, and indeed men of all age, would have wore all kinds of garments and garments. Since the youngest have been associated with their mother and have always been looked after by females rather than males, it may have been appropriate for all young infants to dress in dresses, whether they were male or female.

Changing diapers would also have been simpler if the baby had worn a skirt, and the use of pants or shorts would have limited passing water, as they often had complex closures. Little cubs would not have felt noticeable, because in those days dressing was regarded as common, although they would no doubt have been looking forward to getting their first pair of pants and being seen as more adult.

Even grown-ups and other kids could have distinguished boy and girl very well. Young clothes were often made in lighter or lighter colors and in simpler or thicker materials and perhaps had clunky waistbands and trim and large metal knobs, none of which was characteristic of girls' clothes.

Young people's clothes were more tailor-made and often had only characteristics associated with boys' clothes, such as the opening on the front of the coat, which was trendy in the early eighteenth and eighteenth centuries. As of the twenties it became more and more common for little boy to carry pants. By introducing new fabric and detergent, the pants were lighter to launder and press and easier washed.

After the Second World war, many old ways of thinking for kids and grown-ups began to shift and "modern" became the key term for post-war lifestyles.
